the retreat hotel are three clusters of buildings scattered along the river in a traditional village. instead of building walls and fences, the renovation scheme inherits the open spatial context. original walking paths are not blocked, while the change of pavements hints the existence of the hotel.
decisions to either rebuild, renovate or add are based on careful study of the existing conditions. the design tries to offer solution according to each specific site and functional requirements. the result is not a set of uniform rules and images, but a set of diverse tectonic and material combinations.
